Clear Storage — Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to Clear Storage ("the App"), a macOS application developed by Everyday App ("we," "us," or "our"). Clear Storage helps you reclaim disk space by analyzing your storage and identifying duplicate files, large files, old files, screenshots, developer caches, empty folders, and similar items — all processed entirely on your device. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the App works.

Information We Access

Photos & Videos

Clear Storage can access your Photos library to detect duplicate photos, similar shots, and screenshots.

• All analysis is performed entirely on your device.
• We do not upload, transmit, or store your photos or videos on any external servers.
• You may grant or revoke Photos access at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.

Files & Folders

The App scans folders you grant it access to — typically your Desktop, Documents, and Downloads — in order to identify large files, old files, duplicate files, files with identical names, empty folders, and developer caches that can be safely removed.

• The App reads file metadata (name, size, type, modification date, content hash) to detect duplicates and surface storage usage.
• For duplicate detection, file content is hashed locally on your device. The hash never leaves your device.
• File contents are never copied, uploaded, or transmitted externally.
• You may grant or revoke folder access at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.

Disk & Storage Information

The App reads your disk's overall capacity and free space in order to display storage usage, the storage ring, the menu bar percentage, and the disk visualizer. This information is read locally and is never transmitted.

App Preferences & History

Your settings (such as theme preference) and a local history (which files you've moved to Trash through the App) are stored on your device using standard macOS APIs. This data never leaves your device.

Information We Do NOT Collect

Clear Storage does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Personal identification information (name, email, address)
• Location data
• Device identifiers
• Analytics or usage data
• Crash reports (beyond what Apple optionally collects at the system level if you've enabled it)
• Any data sent to external servers or third parties

How We Use Your Information

All processing occurs locally on your device for the following purposes:

• Detecting duplicate, similar, and screenshot photos
• Scanning Downloads, Desktop, Documents, and other selected folders
• Finding large files, old files, files with identical names, and empty folders
• Identifying developer caches, build artifacts, and package manager leftovers
• Visualizing disk usage and showing real-time storage availability
• Moving items you select to the Trash so you can recover them if needed
• Saving your preferences and history locally

Data Storage & Security

• All app data is stored locally on your device.
• The App runs inside Apple's macOS sandbox and uses only the system permissions you explicitly grant.
• We do not have access to any of your data, your Photos library, or your files.
• Uninstalling the App removes its locally stored data.

In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

The App offers an optional yearly subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase through Apple's In-App Purchase system. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID credentials. Subscription status is verified locally through Apple's StoreKit framework.

Third-Party Services

Clear Storage does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The App contains no ads.

Children's Privacy

Clear Storage does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The App is a general utility tool that does not require any personal information to function.

Your Rights & Choices

Managing Your Data

• You can clear scan results or history within the App at any time.
• Files moved to the Trash by the App can be recovered from the Trash until you empty it.
• Uninstalling the App removes all of its locally stored data from your device.

Permissions You Control

• Photos Access: Required for photo-related features. You can revoke this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.
• Folder Access (Desktop, Documents, Downloads): Required to scan the relevant folders. You can revoke this in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.

Declining any permission only limits the related feature — the rest of the App continues to work.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
